Adventures in and around Sooke

To start: Gloria and Cam were excellent outdoor guides. This photo was pretty typical of how we saw them on our visit—they were game to take us walking, hiking or biking anywhere.

We started with a tour of the Avatar Grove at Port Renfrew—a short hike through tangled roots to trees that have stood for hundreds of years

We took in the Pacific and the petroglyphs of East Sooke Regional Park, with Cam and I driving, and Ken cycling to join us.

We visited the potholes of the Sooke River…

And walked along the Sooke Harbour spit, listening to sea lions, dodging birders, enjoying rainbows.

And every evening we returned home to a fantastic dinner with produce fresh from the garden, local fish—and this view from the trailer.

Totally sweet stay, and very hard to leave.
