11500 kilometres later, and we are safely home. Northern Ontario was disappointingly rainy, so we cut off a few days from our trip, but not before one last visit to Rossport. This time through, we stayed in the McEwans’ sweet little cabin, warm and dry. That gave me a bit of time to enjoy views (see below—I so want to come back here)—while Ken did a little carpentry as a thank you. Also thought our hockey fan readers might like the “anyone but the Leafs“ house sign.
The drive the next day was spectacular for scenery and storm clouds and a bit of bickering, if we’re being honest. No photos of that!

And then, in the wink of an eye, and with another hundred dollars of gas, we sailed through Sudbury…

with some help from apple fritters the size of our heads …

Then through North Bay, the Muskokas…where the spectacular reds had already passed…much to my disappointment.

And home. Back to the view from my study window…where my dear little maple held on to its leaves, so I didn’t miss the reds altogether….

to Ken’s much-loved workshop…

and to Peterborough vistas…

We end with a new appreciation for this vast and complex country, for our living room couches, for the value of friends and family, no matter how distant…and for our very lucky life in Peterborough, where we bask in a world we love. Many thank you notes to write, much smoked fish to share, and then we will start to plan the next adventure—French immersion in Montreal!
I shouldn’t have started reading at 1 am right after setting the clock back! What a warm hearted tale. Thanks for sharing.

No photos of the bickering?! Happy that you got home safe and looks like a wonderful time! xo
